Around the table:
Share a time about when you were disobedient as a child.
Do you tend to break a rule if you aren’t aware of it, you disagree with it, or because you don’t respect the person who made the rule?
Read the summary for the Sunday sermon:
In these verses Paul turns his attention to the relationship and responsibilities with children in the home. Both parents and children are called to fulfill their part as designed by God for the flourishing of his people.
Read: Colossians 3:20-21
Discussion Questions:
What does obedience look like?
Is obedience an action, an attitude, or both?
How can learning obedience as a child help later in one’s relationship with God as an adult?
How can not learning obedience as a child make a relationship with God difficult as an adult?
Do you lean more toward being a rule breaker or a rule follower?
What are some ways that parents can embitter, provoke, or discourage their children?
What wrong view of God’s character might lead parents to act in the ways you described above?
If your parents were believers, what were some positive ways you saw them modelling obedience to God?
Prayer: Have a few people pray for each child in your Missional Family by name. Pray that their hearts would be softened, that they would come to know Jesus as their Saviour, and that they would learn to follow him.
