Declaring The Mystery

Around the table:

  • Have you ever messed up a recipe? What happened? Did you add a wrong ingredient, miss an ingredient, or something else?

Read the summary for the Sunday sermon:

God uses people to share the good news of the gospel. In this passage Paul encourages believers to do this on the foundation of prayer. The result is lives that are filled with grace and open to God’s leading in opportunities for gospel witness.

Read: Colossians 4:2-6

Discussion Questions:

  1. What practices do you find help you to be steadfast and watchful in your prayer life?

  2. Have you ever prayed for God to open “a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ?” What happened?

  3. What type of thinking keeps us from praying for the open doors mentioned in verse 3?

  4. Does sharing the gospel require speaking? (Consider verse 4 and Romans 10:14)

  5. What does it look and sound like when speech isn’t gracious and seasoned with salt?

  6. Do you find you communicate well with outsiders? What is one thing you could do to improve in that area?

  7. Where do you regularly have opportunity to speak with those outside of the faith?

  8. Is there something you’d like to learn more about to help you walk in wisdom and better know how to answer non-believers? How can you begin to learn that this week?

Prayer: Pray that the person to your left would see and take the opportunities to share the gospel with others. Pray also that any missionaries you may know would have opportunities to share the gospel this week.
