With the insight of a father, The Apostle Paul sees the potential for confusion and trouble in the church at Colossae. In this passage he warns them of the emptiness of human philosophy. In contrast, he points them to their new life that is filled by Christ through faith. The result is a people who can love God and who are freed from the debt of sin. All of this is made possible because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross.

How are we supposed to continue growing in Christ? Give an example of how that looks in everyday life.(verses 6-7)
What are some examples of the philosophies and empty deceit that are present in our society today? (verse 8)
What is so captivating and enticing about these? (verse 8-10)
Have you ever found yourself seeking after these human traditions or extra-biblical spiritual practices in your pursuit to walk with Christ and feel spiritual or complete? What could you do to guard against that in the future?
What does it mean to be complete in Christ? How does this passage describe all that was completed through Christ’s death on the cross?
How is baptism a picture of what Christ has done for us?

Colossians makes it clear that God “disarmed the rulers and authorities...by triumphing over them in him.” (verses 10-15) How can this truth affect how you respond to temptation?
