The Shepherd of the Nations - Revelation

Read the summary of the Sunday sermon: God’s people stand firm because of the Lamb who was slain for them.  This great multitude, from all tribes, peoples, and languages, will worship at the throne of God, the one who is worthy.  This Lamb will shepherd his people and bring them peace.

Read: Revelation 6:17, 7:1-4, 9-17

Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you been to other places in the world outside of North America and Europe (for travel, short-term mission trip, etc.)? Have you ever thought of the experience of people outside of the Western world? Why or why not?

  2. What do you think is the point of the vision of the multitude of nations around the throne of God (v.9-10)?

  3. How does the vision of a multinational multitude shape our heart for missions?

  4. What kinds of barriers keep us from cross-cultural mission? What would it look like to address and overcome these barriers?

  5. In verses 9-11, there is another vision of people from every place on earth worshipping God around the throne. Why is it so important to see worship as the goal of missions?

  6. Do you actively look forward to the day when you will be able to experience this kind of worship along with people from around the world?

  7. How does the promise in verse 17 motivate us to continue in the mission of Jesus, even when there is suffering?

  8. What is one practice you can implement in your life to increase your awareness of God’s global mission?

Prayer: Look up the name of unreached people group, and take time to pray for them. Ask that they would come to know Jesus as their shepherd through the faithful work of ordinary Christians.
