The Dying Saviour - Mark

  1. Both the darkness and Jesus’ words (verses 33-34) show the agony of His crucifixion. Yet in Isaiah 53:10, we read that it was the will of the Lord, or as some versions say that it “pleased” him. How can we reconcile the fact that a loving God allowed and willed this agony as part of his good and perfect plan of salvation? How does understanding this influence how we face suffering, loneliness, and other challenges in life?

  2. What purpose did the curtain of the temple serve (Exodus 26:31-35)?

  3. In verse 38, the curtain was torn in two upon Jesus’ death. What was the significance of this (Hebrews 9:11-14 and 10:19-20)?

  4. How does, or should, the significance of the torn curtain affect your daily life? Consider Hebrews 10:21-27.
