Sacred Communities

The vision behind sacred communities is that they will be a place where together we look in. These groupings of two to four people go deeper than most casual relationships.

They are communities that foster conversations that go where casual conversations of everyday life don’t. They are relationships where we sharpen each other through a few simple practices and learn to follow Jesus together.

We practice sacred communities by doing these three things.

Stories

We need to know each other before we can be real. Each of us has a story that has shaped us into the people we are. We want to take time to tell that story in the context of God’s story. Learning our story and how it connects to Jesus is our starting point. Value intimacy, not exposure. Whatever is said in a Sacred Community is confidential, with the exception of threat of harm to oneself or others.

Listening

We seek to practice good listening in sacred communities. This can be hard even for the best of listeners. Through the process of asking good questions, we listen in order to get to deeper areas of our life.

Speaking Truth

We want to learn to speak gospel truth to each other. After listening, we can then practice speaking the truth. We do this by praying for each other and by looking to the Bible as our guide in all areas of life.

Here is a resource to help you get started.
